About us

Since 1915, Blind Veterans UK has been providing blind and vision-impaired veterans of all generations with the free services and lifelong support they need to lead full and independent lives. No matter when they served or how they lost their sight, we will offer our support.

When you’re part of the Blind Veterans UK weekly lottery, your tickets could help provide blind ex-Service men and women with rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support.

Rob lost his sight in Afghanistan in 2010, when a colleague triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). After an initial recovery period, he began his rehabilitation with Blind Veterans UK. Rob had IT training and learned how to use an adapted smartphone. He was taught independent living skills and was able to stay in our specially adapted rehabilitation accommodation.

"They teach you how to use all the equipment correctly and it just puts you in a situation where you don’t have to rely on anyone and you can learn to live for yourself again"

More recently we have begun helping Noeline, whose sight loss was caused by wet and dry macular degeneration. Noeline can now use a screen reader and an adapted mobile phone; she has learned to cook meals using talking gadgets and a liquid level indicator, so she doesn’t burn herself.
